Timo Sarpaneva
Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) was a Finnish designer, sculptor, and educator whose groundbreaking glasswork fused art with functional design. Besides glass, he also worked with textiles, wood, porcelain and metal. Sarpaneva's unique industrial design helped pioneer Finland's international design reputation. Sarpaneva earned prestigious accolades throughout his career, including the Lunning Prize and two awards at the Milan Triennale. In 1976, the Finnish government honoured him with the title of Professor. His long-standing collaboration with Iittala led to iconic designs, including creating the "i" logo, which symbolized the company for decades.
