Serge Mouille
Born in Paris, Serge Mouille (1922-1988) had a passion for drawing early. At thirteen, he passed the entrance exam for Applied Arts, the youngest student to do so at the time. Under Gabriel Lacroix, he mastered metalworking and began working at Hénin Orfèvre amongst older workers. In 1954, he succeeded Lacroix as head of the metal shop, dedicating himself to teaching and research for 44 years. A pivotal moment came in 1951 when Jacques Adnet commissioned him to design a lamp for his clients. The result was the iconic Black Lamp series. In 1956, Serge's work gained further recognition when gallery owner Stéph Simon showcased his lighting alongside Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand's pieces.
