Richard Schultz
After studying mechanical engineering and design, Richard Schultz (1926-2021) joined Knoll in 1951. His first task was to assist Harry Bertoia with the Bertoia Wire Collection, which led to 18 months in Europe managing Knoll's production. Returning to the U.S., he joined the Design Development Group at Knoll's factory in Pennsylvania. Schultz is known for his outdoor furniture, such as the award-winning Petal Table and the 715 Chaise Lounger, which was added to the MoMA's permanent collection. At Florence Knoll's request for durable designs for a coastal climate, Schultz created the iconic 1966 Leisure Collection. After leaving Knoll, Schultz designed outdoor collections for his own studio.
