Michael Graves
Michael Graves (1934-2015) was a prominent American architect and designer in the postmodernist movement. He earned a master’s degree in architecture from Harvard in 1959 and began his career in the 1960s with modernist private homes. In the early 1980s, Graves gained fame with public buildings like the Portland Public Service Building and the Humana Building, known for their bold forms and Cubist interpretations of classical elements. By the mid-1980s, he was a leading figure in postmodern architecture, working on projects worldwide. He also designed iconic products, including a playful tea kettle for Alessi.
