Marianne Brandt
Born in Germany, Marianne Brandt (1893-1983) was a versatile artist known for her painting, sculpture, photography, and design work. She began her studies at a private art academy and later attended the Bauhaus School, where she learned from noted figures like László Moholy-Nagy. From 1924 to 1929, Brandt worked in the Bauhaus metal shop, creating modernist icons like her 1924 teapot and sieve. She also designed lighting for Körting & Mathiesen. After a brief period at Walter Gropius's firm, she led the design unit at Ruppelwerke Metalware Factory. Brandt later returned to painting and photography, earning acclaim for her still-life and self-portrait photomontages in the 1970s.
