Kazuhide Takahama

Kazuhide Takahama (1930-2010) studied architecture in Tokyo before working with Kazuo Fujioka. In 1957, he oversaw the Japanese pavilion at the XI Triennale in Milan, where he met furniture entrepreneur Dino Gavina. In 1963, Takahama moved to Bologna, creating impactful work for Gavina's brands, including local bus shelters and the airport. His designs blended traditional Japanese aesthetics with minimalist forms. The Naeko sofa was his first production piece, followed by the experimental Suzanne sofa, made from foam blocks. His striking lacquered Bramante series for Cassina and lighting designs like the Nefer and Saori reflect his emphasis on simplicity and elegance.
