Kaj Franck
Finnish ceramic and glass designer Kaj Franck (1911-1989) believed in the beauty of simplicity. His principles shaped Finnish design, evident in his iconic Iittala Teema and Kartio series, which are staples in many Finnish homes. Emphasizing practicality and rejecting materialism, his work featured simple geometric forms and vibrant colours. As an artistic director at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, he focused on ideas over aesthetics. A pioneer in recycling, he earned the title "conscience of Finnish design" and received numerous accolades. The Kaj Franck Award is Finland's most prestigious design recognition.
