Hvidt & Mølgaard
Design duo Hvidt & Mølgaard, consisting of Peter Hvidt (1916–1986) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907–1993), were pioneers of Danish mid-century design. They were early innovators of the flat-pack system, notably through the 1944 Portex series, made from Danish beech wood exported for rebuilding post-war Europe. Their 1950 AX lounge chair marked a pivotal moment, featuring a sleek silhouette and laminated wood that enabled mass production and international export. This approach combined classical craftsmanship with affordability, producing numerous iconic furniture pieces.
