Gino Sarfatti
Gino Sarfatti (1912-1985) is a pivotal figure in Italian industrial design, renowned for his work in lighting. As the founder of Arteluce in 1939, he developed over 700 luminaires, merging innovative concepts with striking design and significantly influencing 20th-century lighting. Initially studying aeronautical engineering, Sarfatti's path shifted when, for a class assignment, he transformed a glass vase into a lamp – his first foray into lighting design. This experience ignited his passion for exploring new product types, materials, and technologies. His unique blend of engineering and design talent resulted in elegant, functional products that remain influential today.
