Dorothee Becker
Dorothee Becker (1938–2023) is best known for her 1969 design of the Vitra Uten.Silo storage organizer. Before embarking on her design career, the German-born Becker studied languages and lived in London and Paris before moving to California in 1960. After returning to Germany with her husband, lighting designer Ingo Maurer, she opened a design shop in Munich, which she operated until 1989. Although she was a self-taught designer, Becker significantly impacted the design world, the Uten.Silo has become a recognized classic and is part of the collection at New York's MoMA.
