James Carpenter

23/09/07 - 5:00 p.m.

James Carpenter will focus on a nearly 50-year trajectory of work that brings agency to the presence of light. His studio's work uses light as the key organizing principle, embodying a deeper connection to the presence of nature within the built environment. James Carpenter's distinctive vision is conceptually founded on the optical properties of materials and light as they reveal the presence of nature. Initially studying architecture before concentrating on the fine arts, Carpenter exhibited in North America and Europe through the 1970s, creating immersive film installations. Carpenter established his studio in 1979, which applied these aesthetic principles to transform the public realm.
